We received our 29th wish for a very special little boy, Antoni van Reenen. Antoni was harmed shortly after being born by way of a too big intubation tube puncturing his respiratory tract and thus depriving him of oxygen. This caused his lungs and vocal chords to collapse.
Seven years later, Antoni is still fighting the daily battle of survival, with the help of his stay-at-home mom, Marili and dad, Mauritz.
He currently breathes through a tracheotomy tube and suffers from unexpected seizures. He also goes for physiotherapy once a week in order to aid his rehabilitation.
Through fundraising and additional sponsorships, Antoni has gotten the funds together to go for cutting-edge stem cell treatment at a facility in Mumbai, India. The hope is that this treatment will help him to have a better quality of life and hopefully regain and strengthen his motor abilities. A special scan done at this clinic in India will also be able to determine the extent of brain damage Antoni suffered at birth.
The wish we received for Antoni was to cover the cost of his travel to India. We are over the moon that we were able to provide the funds for their passports and visas, return flights and 4 nights 4-star accommodation for Marili and Antoni, as well as foreign exchange to the amount of R10 000 to cover any incidentals and additional expenses that may arise during his treatment.
We wish Marili and Antoni all of the best for their trip to India and trust the treatment will be a success.
